평점: ★ 4.208 / 1088 서울 올림픽에 참가한 동독 근대 5종경기 선수 에릭 브로가(Eric Brogar: 돌프 룬드그렌 분)가 금메달을 획득한 후 미국으로 망명한다. 브로가를 어렸을 때부터 키운 뮐러 코치(Mueller: 데이빗 소울 분)는 그에 대한 배신감으로 몸을 떤다. 베를린 장벽이 무너지고 독일이 통일된 후 신나치당을 조직한 뮐러는 로스앤젤레스 지부를 확장하기 위해 미국으로 향하고, 그곳에서 애틀랜타 철인 5종 경기에 대비하여 훈련을 하고 있는 에릭의 소식을 듣게 된다. 편집광적 환상에 사로잡힌 뮐러는 그때까지도 에릭이 자기 소유물이며, 에릭이라는 금메달리스트는 자기의 창작품이라고 생각하던 터여서, 복수 계획을 세운다. 미국에 망명하여 한동안 방황하다가 카페 주인 크리스의 도움으로 다시 훈련을 시작한 에릭은 망명할 때 자기를 도왔던 미국 여자선수 줄리아(Julia: 래니 콜맨 분)와 사랑하게 된다. 에릭이 훈련하는 줄리아의 아버지 빅(Vic: 필립 브런스 분)의 목장에 부하들을 데리고 나타난 뮐러는 그곳을 방문한 크리스에게 부상을 입히고 에릭을 납치하는데...
