매춘부만을 노리는 “잭더리퍼”의 연쇄살인이 벌어진 지도 100여년이 지났지만, 뉴욕에서는 다시금 “잭더리퍼”를 모방한 살인이 벌어진다. 언론과 대중의 관심이 집중된 가운데 목격자도, 증거도 없고, 유일한 용의자 존은 자살해버리자 경찰은 사건을 얼렁뚱땅 종결해버린다. 한편 꿈을 통해 쌍둥이 동생 존의 죽음을 목격하게 된 리차드는 사건 현장을 찾아가 동생의 죽음은 자살이 아니라 타살임을 주장하며 범인의 얼굴을 봤다고 진술한다. 하지만 경찰들은 신빙성 없는 그의 말을 믿지 않고 되려 살인사건과 묶어 동생까지 살인한 용의자로 몰아간다. 그럼에도 아랑곳하지 않는 리차드는 크리스틴의 도움을 받아 꿈에서 본 범인이 동생과 같은 병원에서 일하는 잭이라는 사실을 알게 되고, 잭의 집을 급습하는데...
