공부, 음악, 운동 등 못 하는 것이 없는 제이스. 유일하게 안타까운 점이라면 시각 장애인이란 것이다. 신체적 장애에도 불구하고 친구들과 잘 어울리며 뉴욕 생활을 하던 제이스는 아버지를 따라 유타 주로 이사를 간다. 홈스테드 고교에 전학온 제이스는 플라이와 메리를 제외하고는 친구를 잘 사귀지 못한다. 메리의 제안으로 레슬링 부에 든 제이스. 레슬링 부원 중에서 존이나 루크 같은 덩치 큰 학생들은 대 놓고 제이스를 무시한다. 존이 스페인어 수업에서 낙제당할 위기에 처하자 도움의 손길을 내미는 제이스. 존은 그 대가로 제이스에게 레슬링 기술을 가르쳐 준다. 미국 고등부 레슬링 챔피언십 경기에 나가기 위한 유타 주 예선전을 준비하는 홈스테드 고교 레슬링부 선수들. 존은 옆 학교에 다니는 티렉스라는 라이벌과의 경기를 위해 혹독한 훈련을 하는데, 그 때문에 몸에 무리가 간다. 코치는 존의 체급을 한 단계 올리고, 티렉스와 맞붙을 상대로 제이스를 지목한다. 유타주 고등부 챔피언인 티렉스와의 경기를 앞둔 제이스는 불안해한다. 하지만, 주변 사람들의 응원으로 자신감을 갖고 경기에 출전하는데...
