어떤 남자가 향해 중인 배에서 돌연 살해되고 배는 폭파된다. 바다로 뛰어든 남자는 의식불명으로 남프랑스 해안으로 떠밀려 간다. 우연히 지나가던 노의사에게 구조되어진 남자는 기억상실증에 걸리게 되고 그에게 남은 것은 얼굴의 성형수술자국과 살 속에 감춰진 마이크로 필름뿐. 이 마이크로 필름에는 스위스 은행의 개인구좌가 기록되어 있다. 취리히까지 온 그는 호텔에서 지배인으로부터 단골 고객 대우를 받고 자신을 알게 된다. 그의 개인 구좌에는 1500만 달러나 예치금이 있고 그곳에는 그를 노리는 정체 불명의 저격자가 도사리고 있었다. 그는 다름아닌 본으로 자신의 과거를 알기위해 회사를 수소문하나 그 회사는 다름아닌 미중앙정보국 CIA였다.
